The sit and
go tournaments are a very popular form of poker, especially among the beginners
because of a very attractive relation of invested moey to the game time. For a
little money / 5-10$/ you can spend even one hour playing and playing
reasonably and good – Quite often you can win . What does it mean reasonable
and good? Read it! The SG
tournaments are the easiest form of poker tournaments. It is just 9 / or 10/
people playing particular tournament, when there is a team of players the
tournament starts. Every participant gets same amount of tokens, mostly 3 rooms
are payable. It is worth to remember that SG tournaments reqiure the proper
bankroll management too. There is no point to play SG for a big part of
bankroll. One failure can easily jerk our budget. The entry fee should not to
be higher than 5% of our bankroll, maximum it is 2%. All that because all in
the most important part of the tournament we do not have to worry to risk every
card just to carry on playing to get to the payable places.
Furthermore the lack of win in several
tournaments shuld not be a reason to worry or get nervous, otherwise we will
not play our best game. It is worth to concentate on one type of tournaments –
e.g. 10 players SG with entry fee of 10$ and keep the notes of statistics of
the long term game. Let's say a hundred tournaments – then we could say how do
we do, we could see our mistakes and if it is the right time to go on a higher
level. If we jump on the different and random tournaments, for 5$ or 20$ or
once 5 peole and then 9 people – in the long term we will not be able to read
any conclusions about our ability to play poker games. If the level of our work
is more or less 20-30% this is the signal we can try to go on a higher level. Time for
the strategy of the game. Let's say
that there is 9 people in our game, 3 eats are payable. We begin with the stake
of 1500tokens, blinds start from 10-20 and change every 10 mins. In the early
stage jackpots are small and there is no point to get involved without really
good cards. Low blinds should not make you get into the game with such a weak
and dangerous hands like K9, A8 or QJ. These orders make troubles. If someone
feels strong enough in game after flop you can try to see the flop with low
pairs or suited connectors, but only with the presumption of game after perfect
traced flop or its fold after the lack of contact. These tournaments do not
require any complicated game, artistic bluffs and so on. The reliability counts
here. For the
first 2 or 3 levels it is enough to rely on cards and watch the game of our
opponents. After that time of the game there is usually 6-7 players left and
the stakes start getting higher. Now the suited connectors or small pairs loose
out. If they
have not got a big stack it is better to forget about playing them. Strong
cards like AK, AQ, JJ, KK, etc., we have to play aggressive. Bid before flop
and if the flop order is good play strong. Playing up with K10 or J9 even in
colours is absolutely uneconomic. We should choose only the hand with we will
be able to risk all our stack. This game leads to the situation where there are
4 players eft. It means that one player goes and all the rest is with cash. This is the
most important moment of the tournament. We have to see who has got the least
amount of tokens non stop, who is safe, what are and for how much money the
blinds changing, etc. If the lowest stack is finished on the table and we are
not sure about continuation, there's no point to get into the hand. The
strategy looks like the final stage of satelite tournaments. If we have got
lots of tokens let's play shortstacks, if we have got few tokens let's play
hard for everything. No small bids, no limps. Remember about the rule 'first in
the kitty'. If there are only 4 players left and we have few tokens, AT or KQ from the first position
goes into all-in. But if we are on a small blind, the player from the first
position limpsand then bids, same hand goes to the bin. If we are
one of the final 3 players, our mission was done. Now we have the bonuses only
– as much as we can win. We can take more risk now, there is nothing to lose.
Same like in the first stage we can rely on cards. Blinds are high enough there
is no time for an artistic game. Let's pick quite strong card and bid or play
for all. That's it. Time for another tournament.
